Holy Name
January 2022 / acrylic on canvas / 9" x 12" (18mm thick)
~~~
The month of January is devoted to The Holy Name of Jesus. It was interesting pondering how to depict this. Because Jesus means "God saves," I considered depicting a moment from His Crucifixion. I was more set initially with picturing Jesus as an infant, envisioning Him receiving the name. It then moved more specifically to being from the perspective of Joseph holding Jesus in his arms.
An experience in Mass shifted everything in a very different direction. When we call upon the Name of Jesus, He becomes present to us. This is what I wanted to depict.
The painting is how I imagine Jesus might look back at us when we call to Him, and I hope you will experience His delight to be with you.
