“Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.’ Then the angel departed from her.” /// Luke 1:38

Mary consented to God’s plan for her. It must have been an incredible moment filled with awe and bewilderment. There was likely great joy upon the knowledge that she was to be a mother—but also great uncertainty.

This painting is an imaginative reflection on Mary in the moment after the angel departs from her—staring ahead into the unknown—unsure what is about to unfold.

As she placed her trust in the Lord, may she inspire us to do the same. However uncertain the path ahead of us may be, we know that God is good and that He is with us.

The greatest thing we can do is allow ourselves to receive.
